A building is only as strong as its foundation. A non-profit is the same.

We embarked on this journey because we saw the real need in northern Accomack County, Virginia for services to help cats and their caretakers, and the best way we can do this is to focus on fundraising and foundation-building for our first six months.

There are many, many steps involved in laying the groundwork for a successful, impactful non-profit, and we are determined to create a strong organization that can endure and have a lasting impact for years to come.

Our six-month plan:

1.

Fundraising! Our goal is to raise a bare minimum of $3,000 before we begin offering services. This will allow us to dive right in and get straight to the business of helping, without having to scramble for the cash to do so right off the bat. (To watch our nest-egg grow, please visit our Tracker.)

2.

Community Outreach If a non-profit is only as strong as its foundation, it is only as good as its vision and its volunteers. We are focusing on getting the word out about NACC and giving folks ways they can help, whether that’s through hands-on volunteer efforts, donations, or supportive roles. (For more information, please visit Ways To Help NACC.)

We are also doing quite a bit of data-gathering: finding out what the folks who actually live in Accomack County see as the challenges and needs in their communities, so that our efforts can be focused and productive for the people we’re trying to help.

3.

Administrative Organization There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into successfully incorporating and receiving 501(c)3 status, and a lot of work that goes into keeping a group afloat in that space before everything is approved.

Our primary focus in our second 6-months will be on TNR efforts. We have plans in the works for both small-scale and large-scale pushes. We are also exploring a variety of other ideas to help northern Accomack cats and the people who care for them. Stay tuned!
